🗑️ Account & Data Deletion

How to delete your Philiabit account, what happens to your data, and how long the process takes — required reading before you tap Delete.

Effective 2026-07-20 Last updated 2026-07-20 Version 1.0 Applies to iOS & Android

At a glance

  • You can delete your account directly in the app — Settings → Privacy → Delete Account — no need to contact support.
  • There's a 14-day grace period: your profile is hidden immediately, but you can cancel the deletion by logging back in during that window.
  • After the grace period, your personal data is permanently deleted or irreversibly anonymized within 30 days.
  • Some data may be retained longer where required by law or to resolve active disputes/reports — this is the exception, not the default.
  • You can also request deletion by emailing [email protected] if you're unable to access the app.

1 How to delete your account

Account deletion is self-service and does not require contacting support:

  • Open the Philiabit app and go to Profile → Settings → Privacy.
  • Scroll to Your Data and tap Delete Account.
  • Confirm your password (or re-authenticate) and review the summary of what will be deleted.
  • Tap Delete my account to confirm. Your account is immediately deactivated and hidden from other users.

Can't access the app?

Email [email protected] from your registered email address with the subject "Delete my account," and we'll verify your identity and process the request manually within the same timeline described below.

2 The 14-day grace period

To prevent accidental or impulsive deletions, your account enters a 14-day grace period after you confirm deletion. During this window:

  • Your profile, posts, and proof are hidden from other users immediately.
  • You stop receiving notifications and your account is excluded from leaderboards and challenge matching.
  • Logging back in at any point during the 14 days automatically cancels the deletion and fully restores your account, exactly as it was.
  • After 14 days without a login, deletion proceeds automatically and cannot be reversed.
3 What gets deleted

Once deletion is finalized (after the grace period), we permanently delete or irreversibly anonymize:

  • Your profile: name, username, email, avatar, bio, and login credentials.
  • Your habit and challenge history, streaks, XP, coins, levels, and badges.
  • Proof photos/videos and stories associated with your account.
  • Direct messages you sent (recipients' copies of the conversation may remain, similar to most messaging apps, unless they also delete the conversation).
  • Device tokens, push notification subscriptions, and stored authentication sessions.
  • Analytics identifiers tied to your account are anonymized so future aggregate reporting can no longer be linked back to you.
4 What may be retained, and why

A small amount of data may be retained beyond the standard 30-day window, strictly limited to:

  • Records needed to comply with tax, accounting, or other legal obligations.
  • Information relevant to an open safety report, dispute, or investigation involving your account, retained until it is resolved.
  • Aggregated, de-identified statistics that no longer reference you personally (e.g., "X challenges completed this month" totals).
  • Backup copies of the database, which are purged on a rolling schedule (typically within 90 days) as part of normal backup rotation — these are not accessible for day-to-day use and exist solely for disaster recovery.
5 Effect on challenges, groups & friends
  • If you're the sole creator of a group or team challenge, ownership may transfer to another active participant, or the challenge may be archived, so other members' progress isn't lost.
  • Your proof approvals already given to other members' submissions remain part of their challenge history (the approval itself, not your profile).
  • You're automatically removed from all friends lists, groups, and shared challenges upon final deletion.
6 Alternatives to full deletion

If you just need a break, consider these lighter options instead of permanent deletion, all available in Settings → Privacy:

  • Switch your profile to Private to stop new people from seeing or contacting you.
  • Turn off push, email, and marketing notifications entirely without deleting anything.
  • Temporarily deactivate is not currently a separate feature from deletion — deletion's 14-day grace period currently serves this purpose, since logging back in restores everything.
7 Export your data first

We recommend using Export My Data (Settings → Privacy → Your Data) before deleting your account, since your habit history, streaks, and achievements cannot be recovered once deletion is finalized. See Privacy Settings for details on the export options.

Need help with deletion or an export?

We typically respond to deletion and export requests within 5 business days, and complete them within 30 days as required by law.
